When it comes to making sure your eyes are healthy, it is important to regularly have them examined by a trained optic professional who can look for a number of different conditions that you may not know you are suffering from. Unfortunately, many problems affecting the eyes arrive without any major or noticeable symptoms. As such, the best way to prevent them from doing serious damage to your eyesight is to constantly monitor the health of your eyes. Glaucoma is one such condition. At EyeCare Associates of San Bernardino, our Rialto optometrist will make sure to check your eyes for signs of glaucoma and provide you with the information you need to make sure this disease does not interfere with your life.

According to the May Clinic, glaucoma is actually not a single disease. The term refers to a number of different conditions, but the effect that they all have is the same. They caused optic nerve damage, which could eventually lead to permanent loss of sight. Generally, glaucoma is caused by high pressure inside the eyes, although this is not always the case. The condition comes in two major forms: primary open-angle glaucoma and acute angle closure glaucoma. Symptoms typically associated with primary open-angle glaucoma generally involve loss of peripheral vision. Symptoms related to acute open-angle glaucoma include, but are not limited to, eye pain, nausea and vomiting, and blurred vision. However, when both forms of the condition begin to develop, it is entirely possible that they will present no clear symptoms. That is why it is important to regularly have your eyes examined by your Rialto optometrist at EyeCare Associates of San Bernardino, where we will monitor your eyes closely for signs of glaucoma.

Although there is no cure for glaucoma, it can be managed, often with eye drops designed to reduce the pressure inside of the eye. There are other methods available, all of which our Rialto optometrist will be more than happy to discuss with you at EyeCare Associates of San Bernardino. Our team, led by Mike Morton, OD, knows that glaucoma can seem like a frightening diagnosis. We will address your concerns so that you can understand that, when working with skilled eye care professionals, you will be entirely able to manage this condition.
