If you are having a hard time reading, seeing pictures clearly, recognizing faces, or even with your personal grooming, you are most likely suffering from a condition known as low vision. Due to damage of your sight, low vision is a condition that prevents a person from accomplishing these daily tasks that most people take for granted. Our patients with low vision can’t have their sight corrected with regular glasses, contact lenses, surgery, or medicine, so they need special low vision devices to help them see things more clearly. There really are no ‘fix-all’ devices but there are several popular low vision devices out there that really do help. Desktop devices have large, bright screens that offer up to 75x magnification. With optional computer connectivity, there is a great reading table that serves as a visual aid for reading books. Transportable magnification screens and electronic magnifiers work very well for close up viewing as well as distance viewing. Our Loma Linda optometrist keeps current on the latest developments in low vision devices and is well educated in the newest portable magnifiers, such as the Pebble and the Amigo, which offers magnified reading on the go. Electronic and handheld, these portable devices are terrific for tasks such as shopping lists, seeing menus, and reading labels, plus they fit in your pocket or purse.

Our Loma Linda optometrist will take the time to ask you questions in your initial consultation in order to be familiar with your unique set of circumstances and specific needs. We all know and accept that as we get older most of us experience a normal loss of vision but, according to research, the number of people who develop vision problems due to health problems is expected to continue rising. Our Loma Linda optometrist stays well educated on the causes of low vision, some being birth defect, macular degeneration, cataracts, glaucoma, eye injury and diabetes. Whatever the cause, low vision is treatable, so please don’t hesitate to make your appointment with EyeCare Associates of San Bernardino that makes a difference.

How much do you truly know about your eyesight? Do you understand why you wear glasses or contact lenses to correct your vision? Do you know if you are farsighted or nearsighted? Do you know the warning signs of common eye infections and diseases like keratitis or glaucoma? For the staff at Eye Care Associates of San Bernardino located near Loma Linda, California, they are always surprised to learn how little people truly know about their vision. Many patients of Eye Care Associates of San Bernardino are first time glasses or contact lens wearers, only having recently discovered through an eye examination with our Loma Linda eye doctors that their vision can benefit from corrective eyewear. Whether you enter our optometry practice looking for prescription eyeglasses or contact lenses, our staff of optometrists and opticians want to help you find a style that works with your personality, while also helping you understand why you need glasses in the first place.

Wearing proper prescription glasses from Eye Care Associates of San Bernardino can in fact improve your eyes’ performance, helping you achieve 20/20 vision. Wearing eyeglasses will not make you dependent on them nor will it affect your optical prescription. Some people believe that by wearing corrective lenses all day long  their vision will worsen, but in reality your lenses do not make your vision problems go away. Glasses and contact lenses allow you to see comfortably and when you remove them, you’ll see less comfortably. Simply, prescription eyewear corrects the symptoms of less than perfect vision.
