Opticians San Bernardino

Glaucoma is a blanket term for a variety of conditions involving elevated pressure inside the eye (a.k.a. “intraocular pressure”). Glaucoma is especially dangerous because symptoms aren’t generally noticeable until after irrevocable vision damage has been done. This means that if you wait to come into the San Bernardino opticians practice of EyeCare Associates of San Bernardino until you’re experiencing pain and vision problems, Dr. Morton or Dr. Arabi may not be able to fix you up as well as they could have if they’d had the chance to begin treating the problem earlier. How can our eye doctors tell you’re in trouble even when you can’t? If you have a minute, let us tell you the secret.

Glaucoma Diagnostic Testing San Bernardino

Glaucoma Diagnostic Testing San Bernardino

Back in the day, optometrists and ophthalmologists used something called a tonometer that actually had to make physical contact with a patient’s eyes to measure intraocular pressure. Not surprisingly, this procedure tended to freak people out. Thanks to advances in technology, however, our San Bernardino opticians here at EyeCare Associates of San Bernardino no longer have to physically push on your eyes to check you for the symptoms of glaucoma. Today, all Drs. Morton and Arabi have to do is seat you in front of a computerized tonometer that has binocular viewfinder sticking out of it. Once you’re looking into the viewfinder and holding still, two gentle puffs of air will blow on your eyes — one per eye. Incredibly, the computer is sensitive enough to detect and the amount your eyes recoil in response to the air. In a matter of minutes, our eye doctors will be able to look at the data generated by the computer and be able to know whether or not intraocular pressure is too high.

We here at the San Bernardino opticians practice of EyeCare Associates of San Bernardino really want to emphasize how much better it is if we can start treating glaucoma earlier rather than later. The longer you wait, the higher your risk for significant vision impairment. Give us a call or use our website to set up a comprehensive eye exam right away!
